#FrenchFriday - Best of 2017: my top 5 favorite beauty products

I've tried a lot of new makeup products by the biggest French beauty brands throughout 2017. There were a few flops (at the end of this post), a lot of really good ones, and a handful of amazing launches that I really fell in love with. Here's my selection of the 5 best new makeup products by French brands for the past year!

DIOR 5 COULEURS ALL MATTE EYESHADOW PALETTES

Dior 5 Couleurs Dream Matte palette quint

Dior's eyeshadow formula had been hit-and-miss for the past few years, so I wasn't convinced the brand could pull off fully matte quints. How wrong I was! The Dream palette has the softest, nicest buildable matte formula I have ever tried. Read my full review for swatches and all the details.

LANCOME LE METALLIQUE LIQUID EYESHADOWS

Lancome Le Metallique Liquid Eyeshadow Bronze Rivage

Liquid eyeshadow is notoriously hard to do well. Most formulas are either too sheer and end up patchy, or they dry too fast and are difficult to blend. With the Le Métallique, Lancôme managed to find the perfect balance between pigmentation and blendability. They're a breeze to apply, and they can be built up from a soft veil of shimmery color to a full on metallic effect. Sadly they were a limited edition release part of the brand's summer collection. Hopefully we'll see the formula come back in the near future. Here's my review of Bronze Rivage (I've since added Or Farniente to my collection).

LANCOME MATTE SHAKER

Lancome Matte Shaker Beige Vintage

Playful and fun like its predecessor the Juicy Shaker, the Matte Shaker also packs a ton of pigment in a lightweight, comfortable formula. Lancôme started with only 7 shades for the initial launch last spring, but then released a ton more colors for fall. I reviewed Beige Vintage in May and more recently bought Plum Plum Girl.

YSL TATOUAGE COUTURE

YSL Tatouage Couture Carmin

If I had to choose one Best Of 2017 winner, that would be it. This is by far the most comfortable longwear liquid matte lipstick I've ever tried, and the colors are varied and vibrant. The applicator can be a bit confusing at first and it does transfer, but it's so beautiful on that it's totally worth it. Here's my review of Carmin Statement. I wanted to buy Singular Taupe at the Sephora fall sale but it was sold out!

YSL VOLUPTE TINT-IN-BALM

YSL Volupte Tint-in-Balm

Can a $30+ tinted lip balm really be worth the price? For this luscious balm by YSL, I'd say yes! It's very moisturizing, comes in a luxe tube, and provides a nice hint of vibrant color. Take a look at my review to learn more.

SPECIAL MENTION

Other products I loved, but didn't pick for my top 5: Dior Lacquer Stick, Lancôme La Rose à Poudrer flower highlighter (a controversial product!), Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara, Guerlain's new liquid matte lipstick and a new-to-me product, Bourjois Souffle de Velvet sheer liquid matte lipstick (review to come).

FLOPS

Some products that may work for others but that really did nothing for me: Guerlain Holiday 2017 Météorites (biggest let-down of the year), Dior Lip Tattoo , Lancôme Dual Finish Highlighter.
