Last post of our Holiday 2017 lipsticks series! Today, after Chanel and Dior, I am going to show you Yves Saint Laurent's limited edition lipstick for the holidays, the Rouge Pur Couture Dazzling Lights. Grab a cup of tea and your favorite blanket, sit back, and let's take a look at this beauty!

First, no need to worry if you didn't get one of these holiday YSL lippies and your bank account is drained by all the gift shopping, preventing you from splurging now: the formula and shades are permanent, so you can get one anytime. The only thing that's limited edition is the packaging: the tube with pink sparkles and the fireworks engraving on the lipstick itself. Both are rather spectacular, but for the rest, this is YSL's iconic Rouge Pur Couture formula. All the shades available in the holiday tube are part of the permanent range, including the one I bought, #54 Prune Avenue. Most other brands release new and exclusive colors for the holidays, but YSL loves to just dress up its existing products!

If you haven't tried the Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks before, here's what you need to know: they have a very thin, slippery texture that feels almost like an oil-gel hybrid. They're not as oily as the Volupté Oil-In-Stick, another YSL lipstick formula, but there's something almost liquid-y to the texture as they melt on the lips. Despite being YSL's most "classic" lipstick, they don't have the thick, creamier texture that used to be the most common for satin lipsticks, until gel-like textures took over a few years ago.

Although very thin and surprisingly lightweight, the Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks are nicely pigmented. I wouldn't say that they're fully opaque in a single swipe, but they're easily built to full coverage in just a couple swipes. My shade, Prune Avenue, is deep, vampy color that needs a bit of care to look flawless. I prefer to apply it with a lip brush to get crisp edges and a perfectly even color coverage. I also need to make sure that I don't rub my lips together in the first few minutes to avoid patchy lines. After that it's smooth sailing: the color doesn't bleed or feather, it wears well with average transfer on cups or glasses, and it fades gracefully - of course with a dark shade I always prefer to keep an eye on it, especially after eating or drinking.

The YSL Rouge Pur Couture Dazzling Lights have a traditional satin finish with a good amount of sheen, but no shimmer. The soft shine wears off slowly, but if you prefer you lips to look more matte right away you can just blot gently with a tissue. Prune Avenue is a striking dark plum with warm brown undertones, a shade you'd love if you are into maroon hues for fall/winter. It's a statement shade on my skin tone, not something I'd wear everyday but perfect for special occasions this season. I think it would look beautiful on deep skin tones, sophisticated but not too loud.
