Thanksgiving Makeup Capsule: what's in my makeup bag for the holiday weekend

I've tried creating a small makeup "capsule collection" to take with me on trips before, and I find that it works so much better than just throwing random newly purchased products and special occasion items in my makeup bag! The idea of a capsule collection is that everything is coordinated, so any product can be paired with any other one to create a look.

I will be away from home for 4 days for the Thanksgiving weekend, so I shopped my makeup stash to put together this capsule collection. I found myself attracted to rosy hues and to everything Lancôme - the first one is rather unusual while the latter shouldn't surprise you if you follow my blog! Do you want to see what I packed in my makeup bag? Just keep reading!

When I'm in the Bay Area with my husband's family I don't usually wear a ton of makeup, so I decided to go easy on the eyes. One palette, a few shadow sticks and a neutral liner are all I need to create simple looks. Here's what I'm bringing:

- my current go-to concealer, the Clarins Instant Concealer. It's lightweight and hydrating yet does a good job at covering dark circles. My full review is here.

- the Too Faced Shadow Insurance, that I forgot to include in my picture, to make sure my shadows pop and stay put all day long.

- the Lancôme x Sonia Rykiel eyeshadow palette in Parisian Spirit, from last year's fall collection. This palette is sold but you can find a lot of similar ones with rosy hues. What I like about this one is that it creates soft, natural looks, and it's not too warm or bright (I know super warm shades and hot pinks are trending, but I prefer more subdued shades).

- for quick looks with a wash of color on the lid, I'm packing 3 shadow sticks: a Long Lasting Shadow Stick from Kiko in Golden Mauve, and 2 Caviar Sticks (shimmering Rose Gold and matte Au Naturel).

- a pencil liner in a moody taupe shade in the super creamy Lancôme Drama Liqui Pencil formula, shade Pluie (means rain).

- my $2 elf lash curler. It may not be the most luxurious out there but it does the job!

- a mini It Cosmetics Superhero mascara. I got this one in a Sephora Play box and I haven't tried it yet.

- for the brows, Benefit Gimme Brow. This one has disappeared from stores lately after some people complained about eye irritation after using it. I've never had a problem (and I definitely don't put it in my eyes!) so I keep using this quick fix for groomed brows on lazy days.

I'll be trying out a sample of a new foundation, and also packed products to make my skin glow. My skin always gets dryer when I travel, so a bit of highlight will help keep it radiant. As usual I like to bring travel-sizes and minis.

- a mini Glamglow Glowstarter. This is supposed to be an illuminating moisturizer, but it's very shiny. I intend to use it as a primer so my skin looks more dewy.

-a small sample of the Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh. The sheer coverage is perfect for the casual holiday vibe where I'm going.

- YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush in Nude Insolent. This is a long time favorite of mine and I need to work on it before it expires. It's one of these rare products that work great both as a blush and a lipstick. I reviewed it a while back.

- a mini Nars Blush in Deep Throat, that I just got in a set at the Sephora sale a couple weeks ago (see my haul here). The rosy shade will pair well with the eyeshadow palette and lip colors I'm also bringing.

- a mini Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer. I've had this deluxe sample for a while but I really haven't been using it much. It's a smidgen dark for my skin tone but hopefully it will blend well enough!

- Lancôme Glow For It Highlighter Palette: I also just got this palette at the Sephora sale. The colors are very pretty and you can use them on the eyes as well, so it's a good versatile travel palette.

- NYX HD Finishing Powder. My go-to finishing powder is the Guerlain Meteorites but the pearls really don't travel well, and the pressed compact version is incredibly expensive. So I'll make do with this affordable powder that really doesn't look as white on the skin as it does in the pan! It gives me that soft focused, airbrushed finish without looking too powdery.

- to keep everything together, Urban Decay's All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray in a travel-size bottle.

I'm probably bringing too much stuff for just 4 days but what can I say, I like to have options! The rosy hues will pair well with the Lancôme palette.

- Lancôme Matte Shaker in Beige Vintage. I love the packaging and the formula is so comfortable, although it's not fully matte. See my review for all details!

- Mini Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche in Verbena. This is a fantastic, creamy formula in a nice neutral, rosy color.

- Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey travel-size tube. I've used this best-selling shade a lot for years, it's the perfect sheer but dark shade for a subtle glam look.

- Tarte Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Birthday Suit: this mini was part of this year's Sephora birthday gift. I was pleasantly surprised with the formula, it's both comfortable and long-lasting.

- Lancôme Juicy Shaker in Vanilla Pop. This is the sheer and shiny cousin of the Matte Shaker, perfect for the low-makeup days ahead. Vanilla Pop is a nice warm rose. Check out my original review for more info.
