Makeup essentials: 10 favorites for Fall

Although we've been seeing fall makeup collections pop out since early July, the season only officially starts this week on Wednesday, September 23. With the heat here in San Diego (close to 100 degrees F as I'm writing), I haven't felt very attracted to fall fashion and makeup, but I'm starting to long for sweater weather and brown smoky eyes!

Today I've gathered 10 makeup products that I loved wearing last year in autumn. With just a couple exceptions, all these products are at least a year old (and show some wear), they're not new crushes but products I enjoyed wearing and kept using last fall.

You'll notice strong trends in my makeup selection here: fall is a season when I focus on the cheeks (no idea why!) and abuse of nudes and earthy shades. I tend to keep the boldest reds and berries for the heart of the winter, while autumn rhymes with browns, beiges, soft plums, puples and bronzes for me. I'll soon do a separate post with my fave fall lipsticks - I couldn't just pick a couple - and one with my go-to palettes.

Let's take a look!

Makeup essentials: 10 favorites for Fall

1- L'Oréal Visible Lift Color Lift Blush in Berry Lift. Lift, lift lift. I haven't noticed any lifting effect with this blush, but I really like the formula (I have all but one shade in the range). This is THE best drugstore cream blush I've found by far: super soft, easy to apply and blend, they have a silky silicone-y feel. They all have very fine, subtle gold shimmer that creates a luminous finish. I know this shade is called Berry, but to me it's more of a very warm rose with a hint of plum.

2- Sephora Double Contouring Cream Blush in Golden Spice. I reviewed this blush ages ago, and it's still a staple for me when the weather cools down. It's a beautiful muted rosy pink with golden particles. (It seems to be on sale for $7 right now!).

3- Michael Kors Bronze Powder in Flush. I know, this bronzing highlighter was already in my summer selection, but guess what, I love to wear it in the fall too! You can check out my full review for details.

4- Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Baby Love. This is a little newbie that I received just a few weeks ago when I won a giveaway by Phyrra, but it's fantastic enough to be in my top fall makeup list! The color is my perfect rosy nude with just a hint of shimmer, but what makes it so amazing is the way it blends and sits on the skin: seamless, just beautifully natural.

5- Armani Beauty Eye Tint in Senso. This is also a more recent addition, but the stunning shimmery plummy brown does wonders for a quick yet dramatic smoky eye. Do look at the full review for more photos of this amazing cream shadow.

6- Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Kiss & Blush in Nude Insolent. It's versatile, being both a blush and a lipstick, it's got a lovely, foolproof texture and it's a perfect reddish beige for fall. More details in the full review.

7- Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Meadow (BE204). I bought this product after one of my favorite French bloggers told me it was the best cream eyeshadow formula, and I had to agree (although the Armani Eye Tint stole that 1st place recently). It's well pigmented, blends very easily and lasts all day, but the best part is the pearl finish. Luminous and glowy without detectable shimmer particles. Meadow is a beautiful dirty, cool gold that can be applied as a sheer wash or built for a bolder look.

8- Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Exposed. I told you nudes and cheek products would be the stars of this show! Exposed is a cool rosy nude in a matte finish that's really subtle on my light skin tone, adding just a bit of definition for a polished look. I know that some people considered it a potential dupe for Too Faced Baby Love: for me, it's cooler, much pinker, and less intense. It really doesn't show up well on my swatch, but applied to the cheeks with a brush and a heavier hand, it is visible!

9- Guerlain Ecrin 4 Couleurs Les Fumés. I just reviewed this unique smoky eyeshadow quad last Friday, go take a look for swatches. Spoiler: I love it!

10- Dior 5 Couleurs Cuir Cannage. A perfect seasonal combination of copper, browns, plum, and champagne, in a really good formula. Swatches and looks in my full review.
