10 best budget lipsticks and lipglosses for summer

In this new installment of my summer essentials series, I want to show you my favorite drugstore lipsticks and glosses for the season, because you don't have to break the bank to rock a bright coral or fuchsia lip! Like last week, most of these are not new products or recent launches, but the lippies I kept wearing last year and started digging out of my stash as soon as summer approached. Swatches of all shades are at the bottom!

10 best budget lipsticks and lipglosses for summer

1- Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in 240 Apricot Twist. This is a classic sheer coral pink in a comfortable, glossy formula, and so far my favorite drugstore lip crayon (see how it compares to Clinique's famous Chubby Stick).

2- Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer in 550 HD Citrine. This is a beautiful bright orange with golden shimmer and a subtle green shift. Bold and shiny! You can see my full review for details on the formula.

3- Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm. I raved about them 2 summers ago and I didn't change my mind about these awesome little glosses! They're creamy, comfortable, non-sticky and come in a range of glossy, summery shades. Pictured here is 900 Apricot Pucker, my favorite color. Lip swatches of 5 shades in my full review.

4- Maybelline ColorSensational Vivids Lipcolor. For a bright, statement lip in a happy summer color, this line is your best choice. The neon shades are intensely pigmented and deliver semi-opaque coverage in a glossy, lightweight formula. The shade I have, Pop of Cherry, is an old limited edition color, but the range is full of similarly summery shades. See my full review for more details.

5- Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in 145 Ingénue. Because you also need a nude shade to pair with your summer smoky eyes! This sheer warm beige has a high shine finish and complements dramatic looks really well. It's nothing like the drying Kissable Balm Stain by the same brand, this one glides well and melts on the lips for a wet look.

6- Milani Color Statement Lipstick in 03 Orange-Gina. A metallic burnt orange, bold and shimmery. The formula is not perfect but this is really a spectacular shade. See my full review for further details.

7- L'Oréal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick in 303 Rouge Allegro. I really like this glossy, long-wearing lipstick/gloss hybrid. High-shine meets intense pigment with a lightweight liquid formula that stains the lips and stays forever. Rouge Allegro is a deep bright reddish rose that brightens my whole face.

8- Maybelline ColorSensational Color Elixir in 505 Breathtaking Apricot. Another liquid lip color, but this one doesn't have staying power of the previous one. It is however glossy, nicely pigmented and comfortable to wear.Breathtaking Apricot looks bubble-gum pink when swatched, but it turns into a light coral on my lips.

9- CoverGirl Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balm in 220 #text me. I've really loved the Smoochies since they launched in 2013. They have a comfortable balmy texture and sheer, juicy colors. #text me is perfect for a hint of reddish pink in a glossy finish. See my full review for more details about the formula.

10- Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in 08 San Paulo. Matte lip colors are trendy again, and this product by Nyx is a good option to join the matte movement. It's cheap, fully opaque, long-lasting and doesn't dry out my sensitive lips. San Paulo is a bold but wearable cool fuchsia.

  2. I love love love the L'Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaires! I have at least three of them on hand and have even used up one already. They are pretty much the only gloss type formulas that I like. Super moisturizing to boot too! =D

    1. They're pretty amazing, I agree, and I'm surprised that they don't get more love in the blogosphere. I guess it's always the latest launch that's getting all the buzz!
      What shades do you have?

  3. I'm on board with the Almay and Maybelline Elixir but not a fan of the others after much trial and error!

    1. That's a problem with drugstore makeup, there are many choices but not so many that work well for each person. I used to buy sh*tloads of drugstore stuff and dislike at least half. Now that I've found the formulas that work for me, I buy a lot less of the new launches.

    1. You're actually the source of my inspiration on this one! After reading your review of a Kat Von D matte liquid lipstick, I was like, wait, I had one that I kept wearing last summer, where is it hiding! I really like that it's not drying, unlike many liquid matte lipsticks I tried in the past.

  7. Welcome Alexandra, I'm thrilled that you started following my little blog!
I've had the Nyx for a long time but hadn't used it since last summer. I don't know what I was thinking, it's a great matte lippie!

  8. When I saw the Maybelline Color Elixir, I had to comment! I'm addicted to them. They don't have super long lasting power but they are just so, so comfortable on the lips! I can't have enough of the balmy, cushiony feel! :D
