Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Bonfire & Sunset: the perfect summer shades

Last week I showed you my 10 favorite high-end lip colors for summer, and today I want to focus on 2 amazing lipglosses by Clinique, Bonfire and Sunset, with a full review, photos and lip swatches.

Clinique's Long Last Glosswear formula has been around since I got into makeup (maybe long before that!) so it's not a new product at all, but the brand recently added a bunch of new shades, which tells me that it's here to stay. Of course, as a 10+ year-old formula, the Long Last Glosswear doesn't have the improved texture a lot of newer glosses benefit from. It's tacky, sticky as hell (if you thought MAC Lipglasses were sticky, you haven't seen anything!), and being unscented it smells and tastes waxy. I know, what I'm telling you so far doesn't sound so good, so why the obsession with this gloss?

Well, 2 reasons: wear-time and beautiful colors. Clinique didn't lie when they named this gloss "Long Last". Being stickier than duct tape it stays glued to my lips longer than any other gloss out there. The shine wears off after a while, but some color and shimmer will survive a meal. Being able to count on your gloss for 4+ hours makes a beautysta's life a lot easier!

But what really makes these 2 glosses staples in my summer makeup wardrobe is the beauty of the shades. The shine, the depth of the shimmer, the perfect base color make them absolutely stunning.

Sunset is a sparkly bronze shade with golden and copper shimmer and a metallic finish. For some reason it doesn't show up very well on my lip swatch, but it's closer to my arm swatch in reality. This shade is absolute perfection for a bronzy summer goddess look. Think last rays of sunshine hitting the sand, cocktail lounge by the beach, late night pool party, outdoor clubbing. It pairs very well with a simple beach inspired bronzy look, like a brightening eyeshadow, a coppery liner and shimmery bronzer. It's incredibly flattering, giving me those sexy, glowy bronze lips that also make my teeth appear whiter.

Bonfire is a warm rose with golden shimmer. This one has a stronger base color and a little less shimmer, but the golden particles give it a beautiful depth. It seems lit from within! It's also crazy glossy as you can see on the lip swatch, it looks like I've layered my lips with sugar syrup. This one makes me think of long evenings outside by the firepit, summer BBQ parties and happy hour frozen strawberry margaritas. For me it works best with a bronzy blush and dewy complexion.

Overall: despite a sticky formula, Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Bonfire & Sunset are both gorgeous shades that complement summery looks amazing well.

  1. I haven't tried much of Cliniques makeup, to be honest, I stick to their skincare.

    1. I'm actually not a big fan of their skincare, I think their makeup is much better. What skincare products by Clinique do you use?

  2. Okay, Bonfire looks pretty good. Clinique's old school packaging is boring as fuck but I can't stomach the price of makeup from some of the other brands lately.

    1. Clinique's makeup is very fairly priced imo, and the more the other brands raise their prices into the stratosphere, the more attractive it becomes. I'm knocking on wood that Clinique won't start to increase their prices too!

  3. I'm with Linda. I haven't tried much of their makeup, but I love their skin care stuffs! However, that Sunset gloss is pretty! I remember seeing it on one of your older posts. I was curious as to what it looked like on the lips.

  4. Sunset doesn't even look like a gloss! The shimmer particles are so dense and almost unreal. Yeah, even though these are a bit sticky but the pretty colors definitely make up for it!

    1. Sunset is super metallic, there isn't much color to the base but it's really saturated with sparkles!

  5. Bonfire looks pretty. Can't say I'm a fan of Sunset though.

    1. Honestly Sunset is my favorite, but my lip swatch doesn't do it much justice. It's much nicer in person!
