#FrenchFriday : Summer 2018 Makeup Collections Roundup Part I - Dior, YSL, Clarins

With the warmer season slowly starting, top French beauty brands have all launched at least part of their summer 2018 makeup collections. I want to show you as much details of the new collections as I can, so I had to break this post down in several parts. Today we'll be starting with Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Clarins. Expect to see a lot of blue eyeshadows, bronzer and coral lips!

This post is based on information I currently have and products that are already available for purchase. I will update it if new products are revealed, and I will also try to swatch some of these new collections for you. Let me know which products you'd most want to see swatches of!

DIOR COOL WAVE

If you think that summer should be all about sipping frozen strawberry margarita on a hot pink flamingo floatie in the pool, Dior's Cool Wave collection was made for you. Here's what it includes:

- Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palettes in blue hued Cool Down and warm toned Heat Up. I thought it was very interesting that Dior chose to release two quints on opposite ends of the color spectrum, but it makes perfect sense when you read the inspiration behind the Cool Wave collection: "Exploring the contrast between aquatic blues and euphoric shades, the collection draws inspiration from watery reflections and the radiance of the sun" and "Cool Wave is summer according to Dior: a clash between hot and cold, transparency and intensity".
- A new formula, the Diorshow Cooling Stick eyeshadow in 3 shades: Bronze Wave, Gold Splash and Fresh Pink. I love stick eyeshadows and I'd be curious to see if this new one is anything like the Kiko Moon Shadow sticks from a few years ago, which I really enjoyed with their odd cool sensation. The three available shades are very basic though so I'm still unsure if I should get one. It's a bit pricey to buy just for comparison's sake...
- The new Diorskin Mineral Nude Bronze Powder in 4 shades: Soft Sunrise, Soft Sunlight, Warm Sunrise, Warm Sundown. These bronzers look fairly similar to the Guerlain Terracotta Light (also a new launch for this summer that I already reviewed for you) with a combination of colors, but these ones have shimmer. I ordered Soft Sunlight a few days ago, expect a review in a the coming weeks!
- The Dior Addict Lip Maximizer in Pool Blue, the one in the permanent range being a milky pale pink. Those lip plumpers usually end up looking clear on the lips, so I'd say this one is just for a fun change for people who already love the formula.
- 4 new shades of Dior Vernis nail lacquer: Wizz, Bloop, Splash and Pow. So far I have only found Wizz, a bold orange.
- 4 new limited edition shades of the Dior Addict Lip Tattoo. You may recall that I wasn't a big fan of the formula at all when it first launched... But if you happen to enjoy it, you can now get Watermelon, Cranberry, Orange and Litchi.
- 3 new and limited edition shades of the Dior Addict Lipstick: Nude Chill, Pink Drop and White Splash. Those 3 shades are at all retailers, but there are two more on Dior's own website: Coral Vibe and Rosy Cool.

YSL URBAN ESCAPE

While Dior's collection was all about the indulgent coastal life, YSL's is the exact opposite this year. Inpsired by the urban landscape, it's edgy and surprising, with grays and deep colors that are generally seen in fall collections. The info I got about this collection from France included a bunch of different products, but as far as I can tell we are only getting 3 in the US:

- the Urban Escape collector Couture Eye Palette, with shades of gray and teal. I swatched this one at a store and I'll be honest, the pigmentation of the deeper shade was dismal. Sometimes testers take a beating so I want to try and play with it again, but at this time I'm not comfortable recommending it. Too bad because I really like this combination of cool shades, although I don't find it particularly summery!
- a limited edition shade of Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-in-Stick lipstick called 76 Red In The Dark (most retailers don't list a shade name). Europe is also supposed to get a Red In The Light, but no sign of it on this side of the Atlantic. I really like this semi-sheer lipstick formula so I'm curious to try it this new shade.
- La Laque Couture nail polish in gray shade Gris Graffiti. Again it's the kind of color I would mostly wear in the fall or winter.

CLARINS SUNKISSED

Clarins recently started releasing fun bronzer compacts for the summer, and this year they have another cute one to offer. Here are the only 3 products that are newly launched for the season:

- the Bronzing Palette with cute pink flamingos on the lid. I'm considering getting this one!
- the 4-Color All-in-One Lining Pen, which looks like a good old Bic 4-color pen and contains 3 eyeliners and one lip liner. It's not the first time Clarins has sold this type of multi-liner pen, and last time the reviews weren't very good.
- a new shade of their popular Lip Comfort Oil called Blackberry, a deep berry purple. I really enjoy using this oil, having tried 3 shades so far (review here and here). I don't think Blackberry is limited edition so I might grab it when I finish one of my current shades.

What do you think of the summer 2018 collections from French beauty brands so far? Is there anything here you'd like to see swatches of?
