lipstick blush highlighter eyeshadow palette

October is one of the hottest months of the year here in San Diego so it's always a bit hard for me to get into Fall mode, whether it's for fashion or makeup, until at least November. But I absolutely love colors that are typically described as "fall hues", especially the berries, purples and dark reds. I've selected a few of my favorite makeup products in those shades and I can't wait for cooler weather to wear them! Let's take a look:

I went through my beauty stash looking for colors with a fall vibe to put them aside in a sort of capsule collection for the season. First I tried to limit myself to 10 products total, but it quickly became clear that I have many more I want to show some love to this fall! So I've grouped them in 3 categories: eyes, lips and cheeks. I included some swatches (for everything except the palettes due to lack of arm space...), a link to my review if I published one, and links to the products if you want to learn more (affiliate links). Urban Decay Naked Lorac Unzipped Ocean Sunset Palette guerlain kiko clinique lancome laura mercier bareMinerals Burberry

This year I'm equally attracted by two conflicting trends: very neutral, almost "no-makeup" eye looks, and bursts of bright colors. So I picked easy, fool-proof cream shadows for the nude style and a couple products that will satisfy my cravings for vibrant color .

selection of top eye products autumn

1- Urban Decay Naked Palette: the good ol' Naked! I've had it since it first launched, but I had buried it in my drawer and neglected it for a while. I recently dug it out and brought it with me on a trip, and I fell in love with it again. The shadows work beautifully on my eyes and there are so many neutral looks I can do with these shades, from nude to smoky, in either cool or warm tones. I did my sister-in-law's makeup for her wedding a couple weeks ago, and this is the palette I used on her eyes.

2- Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Au Naturel: this is a mini version but I would definitely buy the full-size when I finish it. It's the perfect no-makeup shade for my eye lids, just a bit darker than my skintone, that evens out the discoloration. It's super creamy, easy to blend, and it lasts all day.

3- Lorac Unzipped Ocean Sunset Palette: as you can tell this one is for my colorful looks! It's packed with shades that are completely unique to my makeup stash, and a good balance of mattes and shimmers. The color scheme in here is just so inspiring to me that it has my creative juices flowing at record levels. Every time I use it I come up with a new combination, and every time it works beautifully to create a stunning, vibrant look. I think the sunset vibe is perfect for fall with the berry pink, gold, copper, orange, and the cooler shades create an interesting contrast. I will review this one soon, and I just ordered the Mountain Sunset palette in the same collection!

4- Guerlain 5-Color Eyeshadow Palette in Coque d'Or: this one is like the bridge between my obsession with neutral looks and my desire to experiment with bolder colors. It's full of fall friendly golds, coppers and bronzes, but all in soft hues. I know a lot of people criticize Guerlain's palettes for lacking pigment, but I think they work perfectly for more subtle looks. I'm saying subtle but the shades here are still quite vibrant in my opinion, check out my review for swatches. The best thing about this palette is that the shades are so well assorted that you can do a gold to deep bronze gradient with almost no blending required!

5- Lancôme Drama Liqui Pencil Eyeliner in Pluie: I loved this pencil liner formula and bought this shade a few weeks ago when it was on sale at Sephora. It's the perfect matte grayish taupe for fall, it goes with everything, and it looks softer on the waterline or used to tightline than black, which can end up a bit harsh.

6- Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint For Eyes in Lots o' Latte: as much as I love to create intricate eye looks with 12 different eyeshadows, on a daily basis I often go for a neutral shade of brown all over my lid. This is the perfect product for those lazy days, in its easy-to-use wide stick form and neutral everyday color.

7- Kiko Long Lasting Stick in 38 Golden Taupe: guys, these sticks are good. If you haven't tried them yet, you should really consider giving them a chance. They're only $9, come in a ton of beautiful shades, and the quality is so much better than any other shadow stick I've tried at this price point. It's really creamy and blends with ease, yet lasts well without creasing. This shade is a stunning warm brown with golden shimmer. Great way to create a dramatic look with just one color!

8- bareMinerals BB Cream Eyeshadow in Elegant Taupe: I've mentioned these cream shadows many times before, and that's because they're a great choice for a one-product neutral eye look. They initially look matte, but reveal a very flattering fine shimmer when you blend them. Elegant Taupe is a cool-toned shade that works well on its own for a simple, polished look. (My review of another shade)

9- Burberry Eye Colour Cream in Mink: I'll be honest, this "cream" shadow is not my favorite when it comes to the texture. It's really more of a powder if you ask me, but a densely packed one, so it's hard to pick up. You have to use a finger to apply. However it creates such a pretty veil of shimmery color on the lid that I put up with the consistency. Again, a great pick for a super simple eye look with just one shade.

10- Kiko Bright Duo Baked Eyeshadow in 10 (Matte Candy Rose & Satin Navy Blue): sometimes I like odd pairings like that. And have you seen this shimmery blue? This duo is for my bold color days of course, and I have a lot of fun doing smoky looks and finding different ways to place the two shades to create something completely new. As usual with Kiko, the quality is outstanding for the price ($11) and they have a ton of shade combos, from very classic duos to out-there pairings like this one.

While I love my plums and berries, I like to have an assortment of varied colors to play with on my lips. This season, I'm mostly into reddish hues and mattes!

selection of top lipsticks autumn

1- Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink in Lover: is it possible to make an affordable yet amazing liquid matte lipstick? Yes, Maybelline did it! This thing is the longest wearing of all the liquid mattes I've tried, hands down. Yet I don't find it overly drying, and the mauve color is perfect when I'm looking for a cool shade.

2- Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Broadest Berry: the original lip crayon that started the trend, in a fall-ready muted berry shade. It's glossy, it's hydrating, what's not to love?

3- Chanel Rouge Coco Stylo in Message: quite a different price point from the first two, but it's really a beautiful glossy lip color, in a perfect reddish rose shade. It has the kind of wet shine I go for when I get tired of mattes. It's so pretty on the lips! (My review)

4- Givenchy Le Rouge in Rose Dentelle: you know my passion for the luxurious Givenchy Le Rouge. This is a very wearable shade of reddish rose, with the comfortable, creamy texture I love so much.

5- Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita: this is a great matte but sheer shade of everyday warm, red-toned nude. That with one of the cream shadows I showed you above, and you got yourself and polished neutral look in 5 minutes!

6- YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain in Carmin Statement: I just reviewed this one a few weeks ago, and I can't get enough of its incredibly comfortable texture yet extreme wear. It's not fully opaque in one swipe as you can see on the swatch, but it's easy to even out and it's so beautiful on the lips! I'm planning to get a nude shade at the November Sephora sale.

7- Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Hitch Hike: this one has a comfortable, creamy matte formula and the terracotta shade is a perfect way to wear a toned-down version of a red lip.

8- Rouge Dior Liquid in Lively Matte: another great new liquid matte lipstick by a French brand that I just reviewed. It's also comfortable, long-wearing, with a vibrant opaque color. The pink shade pairs well with cooler toned eye looks.

9- NYX Liquid Sued Metallic Matte in Modern Maven: metallic mattes are all the rage this season, and this is a great affordable option to try it. I have 3 of these lippies, and they all end up looking considerably darker on the lips that you'd think from the color of the tube, so be warned. The tube suggest a warm reddish copper, but on me it dries down to a reflective vampy deep mauve-y bronze. It's absolutely stunning and worth a try, although it can be quite drying.

10- Dior Addict Lipstick in Fashion Night: glossy and shimmery, super comfortable, this is a very wearable shade of plum. Definitely not as long-wearing as a matte, but great to add a touch of shine to a fall look. (My review)

blush liquid highlighter cream

2017 has been the year of highlighters, and my collection of shiny creams and powders has grown exponentially in the past few months. Besides the highlight, I love to wear plummy and berry shades on my cheeks in the fall.

1- Becca Light Chaser Highlighter in Opal Flashes Jade: this very unique highlighter has a beige base and a green duochrome effect. It didn't want to show on camera when I swatched it, but trust me, the green shift is pretty bright! Obviously, this won't be an everyday highlighter for me, but it's so beautiful that I try to wear it every now and then on special occasions. Regular people sometimes stare at my cheeks with a suspicious look, like why does this girl have green metallic cheeks?? But it was a great hit when I wore at Beautycon a few months ago, where bold and even daring look were common: about half a dozen people complimented me on my highlight. I think it pairs really well with plum blushes, so I want to wear it more this season.

2- YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush in Nude Insolent: this baby is getting old but it's still a favorite of mine for fall. It's just the perfect deep, warm neutral and it's one of the rare products that perform great both as a blush and as a lipstick. (My review)

3- Too Faced Love Light Highlighter in Blinded By The Light: this highlighter was really not well received when it launched and got terrible reviews. I love it! People complain that it's not pigmented and metallic enough, but the fact that it's on the subtle side is what makes it a perfect everyday product for me. I don't usually go for the "robot cheeks" look, I want to add natural glow and radiance to my skin, and this is exactly what I get from Blinded By The Light. The very pale beige shade is great for fair to light skin tones as well.

4- Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed: this is a classic, and a shade many people have in their collection. It's the perfect everyday rosy nude for light complexions. That's the blush I'll go for when I'm not sure what shade to pair with my eye or lip looks, it goes with absolutely everything! Tarte blushes have this annoying tendency to harden with time, so I have to rub the surface with a paper towel regularly to keep this one "fresh".

5- Ciaté Glow-To Illuminating Blush: I love a good warm plummy shade for fall! This one has a nice sheen to add radiance to the cheeks, so no need to use a highlighter on top. It's very finely milled and blends effortlessly.

6- Estée Lauder x Victoria Beckham Highlighter in Modern Mercury: we're in very high end territory here so the $75 price tag might make you cringe. You can find great affordable highlighters, no need to get into debt to buy this one. But if you have a bit of money to spend, you probably wouldn't regret splurging on this. It's a beautiful deep beige with a hint of copper, very finely milled, and it looks gorgeous on the cheeks. Plus the packaging looks and feels incredibly luxurious.

7- Lancôme Glow Subtil Crème Highlighter in Glowing Lights: my favorite cream highlighter so far. It's very easy to apply with fingertips or a brush and you can choose you level of intensity because it's very buildable. The glow it creates is beautiful, without visible glitter particles. Sadly it just disappeared from Sephora's website and I can't find it anywhere else in the US. That's too bad because I was ready to buy it in other shades! (My review)

8- Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Your Love Is King: adorable packaging, great pigmented formula, gorgeous berry pink color, this is a staple in my collection for fall/winter. (My review)
