Hello there and happy Friday! Today it's time to continue our journey through the wonderful world of holiday makeup collections launched by French brands. You can see what Guerlain, Dior and Chanel have to offer here, and in this post we'll take a closer look at the festive collections by Yves Saint Laurent, Lancôme, Givenchy and Clarins.
Yves Saint Laurent
This year's Christmas collection by YSL is fairly small, and all about kisses! The Kiss & Love collection features a collector palette, a limited edition packaging for the cult Touche Eclat and 4 shades of Rouge Pur Couture all decorated with kissy red lips, plus a couple nail lacquers.
There's also an extra shade of kissy Rouge Pur Couture called Black Red that is exclusive to Sephora and reserved to VIB Rouge customers:
In terms of gift sets, YSL has a handful, featuring mostly their best-selling eye and lip products, plus a really cool lipstick and nail polish kit.
Once again Lancôme's limited edition collection for the Holidays, Happiness Is A Gift, seems to be flying under the radar. It's certainly not as breathtaking as Guerlain's, but it includes some fantastic new shades of my beloved Hypnôse Dazzling eyeshadows, a nice neutral palette with a hint of gold and purple, a festive mascara top coat with gold sparkles, and gorgeous nail colors, among other items. I posted some swatches on Instagram, you can see them here!
On top of that, Lancôme also created an eye and lip palette called My French Noël, with shimmery neutrals and purples for the eyes, and matte, long-wearing reds for the lips. It's already sold out everywhere online as far as I can tell, but I saw it in a store very recently, so call your local counters soon to see if they still have it if you want it! I also have swatches to show you for this palette here.
The gift sets are centered on the brand's best-selling mascaras and good ol' Juicy Tubes gloss - not very exciting if you ask me, I wish they made sets with Shine Lover or their recent matte lipsticks. I'm not mentioning the gift-with-purchase or purchase-with-purchase sets here, but there are several available at this time of year.
Givenchy's Holiday collection, Nuances Glacées is quite elusive, as many of the brand's seasonal offerings unfortunately. I haven't seen it in my local Sephora stores that carry the permanent line, or on the retailer's website. Barney's does have the beautiful palette, but not the rest of the collection, including the Rouge in limited edition packaging: white leather with silver sparkles. I'm really hoping that Givenchy's limited edition collections will become easier to find in the USA in the future.
This year Clarins released a large eyeshadow palette, the Festive Eye Makeup Palette, with a nice combination of matte and shimmery neutrals in 10 shades. Unfortunately, this palette is nowhere to be found online in the US, and I've never seen it in a store either. In fact I'm not even sure if it was ever available in North America... If you live in Europe, lucky you!
