#FrenchFriday : a look at Lancome's Fall 2015 makeup launches

Happy Friday everyone! Welcome to this new installment of the #FrenchFriday series, where you can get your weekly French beauty fix. For this week's post, instead of another review, I want to talk about the new makeup products and collections that Lancôme is launching this year for fall

I really feel like Lancôme has upped their makeup game in the past year or so: refreshed, modernized range, innovative formulas, successful launches, great seasonal collections with fantastic colors, all that while keeping their prices below most of their direct competitors'! Is that Lisa Eldridge's influence? I don't know, but I've been really impressed lately and Lancôme has clearly become my favorite high-end French makeup brand. I think I've bought more Lancôme makeup in the past 12 months than ever before in my life! Ironic when you think that I became a Lancôme-addict while living in the USA...

Anyways, as the brand continues to improve and develops a trendy and appealing makeup range, they are launching a ton of new products this fall and there's a lot to be excited about: a versatile eyeshadow palette, a new eyeliner pencil formula, a whole line of matte lipsticks, and a seasonal color collection full of warm chocolate shades. Let's take a look at each of these new releases in detail!

Large eyeshadow palettes used to be specific to mid-range makeup brands (Urban Decay and the like), but both "ends" the makeup industry are entering the 10+-shade palette market: drugstore brands (see Maybelline and L'Oréal) as well as high-end department store brands (YSL and now Lancôme) have started launching large eyeshadow palettes.
I haven't had a chance to swatch the 16 shades of the Audacity in Paris palette yet, but from what I heard, it has medium pigmentation (to be expected with a French department store brand) and the shades work very well together. It does look really stunning!

Again exploring territory typically occupied by mid-range brands (and following Marc Jacobs' example), Lancôme has released a new innovative pencil eyeliner formula, the Drama Liqui-Pencil. The shade range is impressive with 16 colors, many of which can be described as trendy: you have the hot pink, the yellow, the highlighter shades, the shimmery dark shades and the deep glossy ones.
I really liked how they feel on the skin, super soft and pigmented yet very thin, almost like a gel consistency. A few shades that caught my eye: Pluie, a greyish taupe, Embrasé, a dazzling shimmery brownish taupe, Minuit, a glossy deep blue. There was only one I really didn't care for, Pacifique, a matte green (the body of this pencil is painted a pearlized green, I found that weird for a matte shade).

Matte To Measure Collection

Lancome Matte To Measure lipstick Collection

In case you've been living under a boulder and haven't noticed, matte lips are big this fall/winter. Lancôme is joining the matte frenzy, and it's not a half-hearted move: they're launching or re-promoting no less than 4 matte lipstick formulas this fall!

Lancome L'Absolu Rouge Definition lipstick for fall 2015

First, there's L'Absolu Rouge Définition, a demi-matte formula. I swatched the 6 pure shades and they all looked pretty amazing. The formula is rich, creamy, glides well, and the color intensity is fantastic. The finish was more or less matte and opaque depending on the shade.
Le Carmin is the star of this launch, a lush true red, absolutely beautiful. I also really loved Le Sépia, a little more muted and toned-down. The other shades are not my cup of tea, but they all looked really good, although Le Pourpre, a deep purple, was not quite as intense as expected.

Lancome Color Design Lip Crayon for fall 2015

The second matte launch is the Color Design Matte Lip Crayon. The ease of a lip crayon with a trendy matte finish? I say yes! I'm already a fan of the Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm and I'm hoping the Lancôme version will be as comfortable and a bit more luxurious. It comes in 10 shades, and I think that's a little limited. Hopefully more shades will be added later.

Next in the matte lineup is the Color Design Matte Lipstick. Lancôme is adding 4 new matte autumn-inspired shades to their Color Design lipstick range: Inconspicuous, Out With A Bang, Racy, Afraid Not.

Lancome L'Absolu Rouge Velours matte liquid lipstick for Fall 2015

Finally, there's the L'Absolu Rouge Velours, a liquid lipstick with a velvety matte finish. I know this is the most popular product in the matte launch because liquid matte lipsticks are all the rage right now. You may not know that L'Absolu Rouge Velours is actually not a new formula: it was first launched in 2013, at a time when liquid mattes were not causing collective Instagram hysteria... You can see 2 of the shades swatched and worn on this French beauty blog. I'm not sure which shades are new and which ones are from the previous launch, but one thing is for certain: if you thought that Lancôme was copying trend-setting brands with this liquid matte lipstick, think again! They've had this formula ready for a couple years and they're just seizing the opportunity to re-promote it.

You don't know who Caroline de Maigret is? It's alright, neither did I. Apparently, she's a "Parisian icon", whatever that means, a model and a musician. The collection contains almost exclusively products in warm shades, with a lot of chocolate-y browns.

It includes a pricey face and eye palette called Mes Incontournables de Parisienne (My Parisian Must-Haves); 3 new shades of Crayon Khol eyeliner (Chocolat Chaud, Café Serré, Bordeaux Corsé); 2 shades of Blush Subtil Duo, a cream blush and highlighter (Blush Simplicité and Rose Automne, the only item that seems to have cooler undertones); a new shade of Grandiôse mascara (Mon Regard Parisien); 2 new shades of L'Absolu Rouge lipstick (Rose de Ville and Rose Peau Nue); a Color Design 5 Pan Shadow Palette in Mon Regard Parisien; 2 shades of Vernis In Love nail polish (Madame Tulipe and Rouge Réglisse, I think they're both part of the permanent line?); 3 new shades of Hypnôse Dazzling Eyeshadow (Brun Cabas, Brun Acoustique, Brun Bibliothèque).

I swatched the Hypnôse Dazzling Eyeshadows and I was really wowed. I'm one of the few people who dislike Chanel Illusion d'Ombre as well as Dior Fusion eyeshadows because they both pack way too much glitter and not enough pigment for my taste. These have the same bouncy consistency but they're very different. They have a much nicer balance between color and sparkle. Brun Cabas, the brownish red, had the weakest pigmentation, while the other two excelled in that department. Another incredibly impressive quality of these shadows is that they won't budge once set. At all. I described what I had to do to remove the swatches from my arm on Instagram, but let me summarize: scrubbing with a cotton ball soaked in makeup remover only removed the shimmer, the color stain wouldn't go away, and washing with soap didn't do anything. Talk about indestructible wear! Brun Bibliothèque has made it to the top of my wishlist (Brun Acoustique is also a beauty but I own too many similar browns).

What do you think of Lancôme's fall launches? Have you tried anything yet, or are you tempted to?
