The Purifying Mud Mask comes in a nice-looking white tube with blue gradient details. Simple and classy. A tube is also the most hygienic and convenient packaging, I much prefer this tube to jars or pouches I've used before.
This Adovia Mask is based on Dead Sea mud (it's the second ingredient after water), which is renowned for its very high mineral content. The Dead Sea isn't just extremely salty as in containing a lot of sodium, it's also very rich in calcium, potassium and magnesium. Unlike many basic Dead Sea mud masks however, this one doesn't only rely on the mud to improve the skin: it's full of other natural, beneficial ingredients like aloe, papaya, algae, chamomile, sunflower, evening primrose, to name a few. I think that the presence of these ingredients makes the mask a lot more gentle. It doesn't dry out or sting my skin like some other Dead Sea mud masks I've tried before.
The texture is easy to work with, it spreads well on my skin and doesn't fall off in pieces when it starts to dry. Let's pause for a minute here and talk about the amount you need to use, because I've been seeing a lot of pics with girls wearing masks in paper thin layers. I tried taking a picture of myself with the mask on, but I have my pride... For a clay or mud mask to be really effective, you need to apply a THICK layer all over your face. As a rule of thumb, you shouldn't be able to see your skin through. If the layer is so thin that the product is semi-transparent, it's going to dry very fast, and once dry, it doesn't do anything for your skin any longer except suck the moisture out of it (note that this is not true for creamy, moisturizing masks, but specific to clay/mud). So don't be cheap, use enough product if you want to see results!
The Adovia Purifying Mud mask doesn't really have any scent, which is good news since many mud masks smell pretty bad. Obviously, it's fragrance-free, and it also doesn't contain added color. The product is cruelty-free and made directly at the mud source, in Israel. It's easy enough to rinse, the least messy way to remove it is in the shower, so I generally apply it about 15 minutes before taking one. I can feel some sandy grains in the mud while washing it off, so you could do a gentle scrub if you want extra exfoliation.
Adovia recommends this mask for combination to oily skins and acne prone skins. It makes sense because the mud absorbs some of the natural oils on the skin, however I don't think that normal skins would have a problem using it, since it's gentle and non-drying. After use my skin is very clear and soft, it feels supple and I notice less oiliness on the forehead and nose for a few days. My pores are also a little less visible. I don't have acne so I can't tell how well it helps heal blemishes, but the high mineral content of the mud should promote clearer skin.
Overall: Adovia Purifying Mud Mask is a great product for an at-home spa facial. It's an easy to use, gentle mask that deep-cleanses your skin, in a formula that's naturally rich in minerals and boosted with other beneficial plant extracts.
