Confession of the day: I often decide which shade of makeup to purchase based on its name rather than the color itself... Fig and chestnut are the two shade names that awaken this weird obsession most often. So, yes, I chose this particular shade to discover Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick formula because it's called Melted Fig. Call me crazy. But hey, I'm glad I did, because it's a gorgeous color!
Anyways, in case you've lived in a cave for the past year or two and have never heard of the much loved Melted Lipstick, this is a long-wearing liquid lipstick in a tube. Why did I wait so long to try it? Well, I was a little apprehensive. Liquid lipstick, especially when completely opaque, can be tricky to apply perfectly, and I was worried it would be hard to use. Of course I regret not trying it earlier now that I know it's so user-friendly!
The Melted Lipstick comes in a squeeze tube of the same color as the shade it contains, with a slanted fuzzy felt applicator. If you've ever used Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector, this has the exact same applicator. That's what got me worried: I thought that such an applicator wouldn't allow me to obtain a clean lip line and would make the lipstick look smudged around the lips. It's one thing to use it for sheer glossy balm like the Clarins Perfector, but another to apply a fully pigmented, opaque lipstick with it.
Surprisingly, it works incredibly well. The consistency of the lipstick, fluid but not runny, makes it easy to precisely control the application and I can get perfectly defined lips, as if I had used a lip brush, with minimal effort. The one problem I have with the applicator is that some lipstick will dry on it between uses, and it's difficult to clean it without accidentally squeezing out more product.

Melted Fig is a rich shade of plummy purple that's fully opaque and intense in a single layer. This is really liquid lipstick and not gloss: the formula is very pigmented and provides full coverage with a satin finish. It feels very creamy and comfortable on the lips, and it doesn't emphasize any dry or flaky area I might have. Despite its coverage, it feels lightweight and never heavy.

It wears really long, 5 + hours if I don't eat, but it does transfer to anything my lips touch. It also tends to get it on my teeth and I have to use the anti-lipstick-on-teeth trick: right after application, I put my (clean) thumb in my mouth, like toddlers sucking their thumbs do, and pull it out while wrapping my lips around it. When you do this, you're removing the lipstick from the inner part of the lip that could touch your teeth. Not glamorous but guaranteed efficient!

Overall: I'm really impressed by Too Faced Melted Lipstick. It is by far the best liquid lipstick I have ever used, and at $21 it's not the most expensive. It's easy to apply, intense, comfortable and long-wearing, and Melted Fig is a beautiful, flattering shade with the perfect soft satin finish. I am now tempted to buy it in a nude shade!

I have wanted to try these Melted for the longest time but I am scared of the pigmentation. I think I will buy one of the new Metal ones but all the colors are so pretty that I don't know which one to choose, lol. The melted Fig looks super pretty though!

I was scared too but it's really so easy to apply beautifully! There are more neutral colors too. I think the Metal ones are less pigmented and more like a gloss than a lipstick. I have Debutante in my wish list!
