As Christmas is fast approaching, let's take a look at the Holiday 2018 edition of the luxurious Givenchy Le Rouge Lipstick! Keep reading for photos and my full review.
This review is long overdue, and the blog as a whole has been very silent since I started working in retail for the holiday season. I work full time on a schedule that varies a lot, including evenings until almost 10 pm, and it turns out to be much more physically tiring than I expected (I'm doing 13,000 steps on average during my 8 hour shifts according to my activity tracking watch!). I just haven't had much spare energy to put into well crafted blog posts lately, but I hope to get back on track as I adjust.
Anyways, let's focus on our subject of the day: the Givenchy Le Rouge Lipstick Holiday 2018 edition. You know that I collect these fancy lipsticks with their beautiful leather cases. I hadn't bought a new one in a while, mostly because Givenchy often creates seasonal cases, but tends to re-promote existing shades I already own. The Holiday 2018 edition is no exception, since the shade 307 Grenat Initié is part of the permanent range, but it's a color I didn't have in my collection yet.
The case of the Le Rouge Holiday 2018 lipstick is covered in leather as usual, but this time it is treated with a shiny rose gold coat. The grain of the leather creates some creases in the gold finish, giving the whole tube a more interesting imperfect effect. It's one of the most attractive limited edition cases for Le Rouge lipstick I've seen, although I'm not sure if the gold coat would remain intact if you kept it in your purse. But as a luxurious holiday accessory, it's absolutely stunning.
I have never tried the Grenat Initié shade from the permanent range so I can't compare this limited edition to it, but I don't see any reason why it would be different (the seasonal outer case comes off completely, so I would guess the lipstick itself is not specially made for this edition). It's a medium dark red with neutral to warm undertones and a satin finish.
The formula is typical of the Givenchy Le Rouge lipstick line, creamy and highly pigmented. It glides well on the lips providing good coverage and gets fully opaque in two layers. The lipstick has a subtle floral scent that I don't smell on my lips after application. It is comfortable on my chronically dry lips and doesn't emphasize any flakey areas. Wear time is very good: nothing moves as long as I don't eat, and it leaves a colorful stain behind even after a meal.
