Now that spring is finally in full bloom I am going to start testing sunscreens again and let you know which ones are worth buying and which ones you should avoid. To restart the Sunscreen Diaries series today I have a product that I received from high-end skincare brand Jan Marini: the Anitoxidant Daily Face Protectant with SPF33. Keep reading to learn about my experience with it!

The Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant, one of Jan Marini's best-sellers, comes in a gender-neutral white tube with a flip top. It's a small detail, but I hate screw on tops because they're impossible to get back in place when you have cream on your hands!

The SPF 33 is water resistant for up to 80 minutes and provided by a mix of chemical sunscreens (as opposed to mineral sunscreens like zinc oxide): avobenzone, octinoxate, octisalate and oxybenzone. This combination offers broad spectrum protection, which means that this lotion will block both UVA and UVB to decrease your risk of skin cancer as well as aging caused by sun damage.

Besides the sun filters, the Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant also contains beta-glucan and phytomelanin derived from dates, two antioxidant ingredients that will further protect the skin from sun damage. It also includes hyaluronic acid to hydrate, and tiny particles that absorb oil for shine control. I was a bit surprised by this slightly grainy texture right out of the tube the first time, but it doesn't feel harsh on the skin at all and the sensation disappears once spread on the face. The sunscreen is paraben free but it does contain fragrance.

The thing about sunscreen is that you need to keep using it. Every day. Especially for me living in Southern California, forgetting for just a day means that my sun spots get slowly darker. But nobody wants to use a gooey, sticky lotion everyday, which is why I'm always looking for sunscreens that feel and look good on the skin. For me Jan Marini really managed to create a sunscreen that is pleasant to use and feels lightweight.

Above the dot of sunscreen, you can see how the Antioxidant Face Protectant looks when blended into the skin

The cream has a yellow tint and a subtle fruity scent. It spreads on the skin easily and absorbs really well without the need to massage for long. It doesn't leave a white cast (that's an issue with mineral sunscreens, usually not chemical ones), and most importantly for me it doesn't leave a greasy film on the surface of my skin either. I just can't stand sunscreens that turn my face into a greasy mess! This one definitely doesn't do that: once fully absorbed it has a very natural finish with just a hint of healthy glow.

I've used it on top of moisturizer or instead of my moisturizer and it worked both ways for me. With the hyaluronic acid it contains my skin gets enough hydration. And with the oil control particles, I also don't look shinier than usual on my T-zone. It also works well under makeup, it doesn't make any of my foundations pill or oxidize.

With May being National Skin Cancer Awareness month, Jan Marini is holding an event called Beauty in Bloom where you can win prizes weekly. Check this page to locate a local event and enter the weekly giveaways.

OVERALL

If you like your sunscreen to be lightweight and invisible - who doesn't?? - I think you would enjoy using Jan Marini's Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant. I really like that they covered both the hydration with hyaluronic acid and shine control with absorbing particles.
