#FrenchFriday : L'Occitane Advent Calendar Review

I had planned to post this review before the end of December, but life happens a lot during the Holidays! And then I wasn't home, and then I was in bed for almost a week... Let me know when you get tired of me whining for getting the flu for the first time in over a decade. Maybe I'll get a flu shot next year!
Anyways, if you follow me on Instagram (you should, really), you know that I had a lot of fun discovering a small treat by L'Occitane every day during the month of December thanks to the brand's Advent Calendar. I was so excited about it, in fact, that I had a giveaway to send one of my lovely readers their own! But was it really worth its price and would I recommend it for next year? Let's find out.

What the calendar contained

A whole lot of shower gels and a shampoo:
- Ultra Rich Shower Cream with 5% shea butter
- Verbena Shower Gel
- Collection de Grasse shower gels in Thé Vert & Bigarade and Jasmin & Bergamote
- the famous Almond Shower Oil
- Cherry Blossom Bath & Shower Gel
- Relaxing Shower Gel
- Aromachologie Repairing Shampoo

5 hand creams and a foot cream: Verbena Cooling, Roses et Reines, Almond, Shea and Pivoine Flora (peony) hand creams, and the Shea Foot Cream.

3 skincare products: Ultra Rich Face Cream with 25% shea, Immortelle Essential Water (a toner) and Shea Gentle Toner.

3 body lotions: Almond Milk Concentrate, Shea Ultra Rich Lotion and Cherry Blossom Shimmering Lotion.

2 soaps and a wipe: Almond Delicious Soap, Soap With Verbena Leaves and Verbena Refreshing Cloth.

And the treat for December 24th, a mini Cherry Blossom Eau de Toilette.

I liked

- Opening a little door every day to get a cute L'Occitane surprise was really fun, I enjoyed my calendar immensely!
- Every single daily surprise was a beauty product: no gift tags, hair ties, or other cheaper fillers that many other brands use in their advent calendars.
- The fact that all the travel-sizes the calendar contained came in beautiful small bottles and tubes also helped: they didn't sacrifice packaging quality to make more profit!
- Everything that L'Occitane makes smells amazing, so I loved getting a new beautiful scent to discover each day.
- The whole design of the calendar with bright colors and cartoon-like illustrations was cute and looked joyful. I think it was a perfect choice for an object that should remind people of their childhood (if you loved chocolate advent calendars as a kid, raise your hand!).
- The size of the products was small but still generous. The hand creams are barely smaller than the full-size tubes, and there's enough in the shower gel or toner bottles to last through multiple uses.
- I think this calendar was a great value for the amount of product we got throughout the month. $55 for 24 travel-sizes is pretty good! On the brand's website, travel-size products are sold around $7 a piece.

I didn't like

- I thought there would be some facial skincare in this calendar, but all we got were toners and a moisturizer. I get it, skincare products don't work for everyone based on skin type, while bath and body products are sure to please anybody. But I was really hoping to get to try some of the brand's highly-rated skincare, such as their cleansing oil or Immortelle eye cream.
- Product categories were really not very varied: we got a lot of hand creams and shower gels in there!
- The Verbena Refreshing Cloth packet contained only ONE cloth, that's really not enough product!
- In advent calendars it's pretty common for the December 24th window to contain a larger item - after all, it's the day we wait for all month! Here the product for that day was also a travel-size, although a more valuable one since it was a mini fragrance. Still I wish they had included one full-size item instead.

Overall

With this calendar I got a ton of deliciously scented L'Occitane body products to try, and the daily excitement of discovering a new treat. Although I wish it included more skincare items for the face, I think it was a great value at $55 and I absolutely recommend buying it next year!
