Nuxe Reve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm review

Welcome to your weekly French beauty rendez-vous! Today we're going to talk about the Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm, the other cult product from French pharmacy brand Nuxe besides their iconic Huile Prodigieuse.

Do you have dry, chapped lips in the winter? Flaky and painful? If you've been desperately looking for the ultimate balm to repair and soothe them, the Rêve de Miel Lip Balm might be the answer to your prayers. As its name suggests it is very nourishing, giving my chronically dry lips all the moisture they need to stay soft and supple through the colder months. My lips being very dry year-round I've tried a TON of lip balms, so trust me when I say that this is one of the richest, most effective balms out there to fight severely chapped lips. It makes a huge difference for me, softening and repairing existing flaky areas and preventing further dryness. In fact, it works better than pure shea butter (yeah I've tried that!)!

The little cardboard box this balm comes in mentions that it is made "with honey and precious oils" - Rêve de Miel means Honey Dream - and it does, indeed contain some honey and a good number of beneficial plant oils, such as sweet almond, shea, soybean and rosehip oils. However it doesn't smell like honey as you might have expected, the light scent is uplifting and citrusy, coming from the grapefruit and lemon oils the balm also contains. A few more words on the formula: the first ingredients is beeswax, and it also contains some silicones rather high up the list.
Here's the full ingredients list: CERA ALBA/BEESWAX, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, OLUS OIL/VEGETABLE OIL, LECITHIN, BEHENOXY DIMETHICONE, PRUNUS AMYGDALUS DULCIS (SWEET ALMOND) OIL, MEL/HONEY, DIMETHICONE, ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE, CITRUS GRANDIS (GRAPEFRUIT) PEEL OIL, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL, GLYCINE SOJA (SOYBEAN) OIL, ROSA MOSCHATA SEED OIL, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, TOCOPHEROL, CITRUS LIMON (LEMON) PEEL OIL, CANDELILLA CERA/EUPHORBIA CERIFERA (CANDELILLA) WAX, ALLANTOIN, CALENDULA OFFICINALIS FLOWER EXTRACT, BHT, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL, CITRIC ACID, LIMONENE, CITRAL, LINALOOL, GERANIOL

As you noticed from the pictures, this balm comes in a little frosted glass jar. It's very cute, but not the most convenient packaging if you want to carry your balm around. I keep mine at home and apply it morning and night, using a stick or gloss type balm during the day when needed. In my experience lip balms in tins and jars are usually much more nourishing than sticks, so it's a trade off. Nuxe does make a stick version of this balm but the ingredients are different.

The texture of the Rêve de Miel Lip balm is rather hard: if you were expecting a whipped, creamy consistency as the promo pictures on retailers' websites seem to suggest, you may be a bit disappointed. It's not so hard that it's difficult to get out of the jar, but you do have to scrape the surface with a fingernail or a small spatula to get some product. It's also a bit grainy, like natural plant oils and butters can be. It does melt pretty well on the lips, but I often have some of these grains that won't disappear and that I need to wipe off.

Despite the imperfection of its texture, it feels really heavenly on the lips: it doesn't feel tacky or waxy, although beeswax is the main ingredient, nor does it feel greasy or too slippery. It feels very cushy and comfortable, instantly soothing my super dry lips. The effects lasts for hours too, when I use it at night I wake up with soft and supple lips instead of a desiccated, flaky mess as usual.

Of note, the Rêve the Miel range by Nuxe includes a whole line of products for dry and sensitive skin, with a cleanser, face cream, and face and body wash.

Overall

If you need an intensive lip treatment this winter, you should try Nuxe Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm. It works wonders on very dry and chapped lips, it smells very nice, and the $15 price tag isn't that bad considering the jar will last you several months.
