This post is subtitled Look at me pretending to know what "on fleek" really means, or how Instagram is now my main resource for learning new words... Anyways, today I want to talk to you about 2 sets I received from Billion Dollar Brows, the 60 Seconds To Beautiful Brows Kit and the Best Sellers Kit.
Quick background info: I kind of suck at doing my eyebrows. First, I only realized fairly recently how important brows were in a balanced makeup look and how they can frame and define your eyes. So I don't have as much practice with brow products as I do with, say, lipsticks. Second, I have very sparse brows, especially the tails, and particularly the left one. Life's unfair. Third, I'm a klutz and I really don't have a steady hand, so much so that drawing a straight line is challenging for me. With all that in mind, you can imagine that getting perfectly shaped, full brows seems like an unattainable goal for me. What I desperately need are products that make application foolproof to create a natural look - yeah because the "Instagram brow" trend (extremely defined, boldly drawn brows) is really not my thing either.
Enter Billion Dollar Brows, a salon brand that specializes in eyebrow products, and their Holiday kits. I was a little worried about testing professional quality products, thinking that maybe they would be too hard to use for me, but my fears proved completely unjustified and I have to say that I've been very impressed by both sets. Let's take a closer look!
60 Seconds To Beautiful Brows Kit ($24)
The name of this kit makes it sound like it was made for me! It contains a brow powder in a shade called Taupe, and a double-ended tool with an angled brush on one side and a spoolie on the other.
- The brow powder is very finely milled and adheres well to the hair and skin, even without primer or wax, so I have zero fallout when I apply it. It's nicely pigmented without being over-the-top intense so it's very easy to work with (I find it more pigmented than an Anastasia Beverly Hills brow powder I tried before). It really allows me to fill in my brows and correct their shape in a matter of seconds.
Taupe is a medium brown with neutral undertones that's a great fit for me. Have you noticed how most makeup brands insist on making very warm-toned brow products, even though they look unnatural on most of us? I really appreciate the fact that Billion Dollar Brows went for a neutral, flattering color in this kit. That being said, I don't think that Taupe is a universal shade: if you have fair blonde, red or real black hair/brows, it might not be a perfect match.
- The double-ended brush is great quality, it's definitely the best brow brush I've ever owned. The angled brush is the perfect size, firmness and density for precise but fast application, while the spoolie works great at both combing unruly hair and blending the powder without feeling scratchy.
Best Sellers Kit ($42)
This is a complete set with a brow pencil, blending brush, clear brow gel and double-ended highlighter/concealer crayon.
- The Universal Brow Pencil is a twist-up pencil, which means no sharpening, with a spoolie on the other end. It's just a tad warmer and darker than the Taupe brow powder but still a flattering, neutral shade that should work for most dark blondes to brunettes. I really liked the texture and intensity: it's not too waxy so it doesn't create that weird coating on your brow hair, it's creamy enough that it yields good color payoff in one swipe but not so much that the result looks unnatural. Of course you can layer and build as much as you want, so if you prefer very defined and bold penciled brows you can definitely do that with this pencil. The one issue I had with this product was that the clear cap on the spoolie side falls off easily (spoolie is great quality too by the way).
- The Smudge Brush is a great addition to this kit for people like me who want a natural look. It allows me to blend the pencil for a smooth, seamless finish. It's a flat, square brush with semi-flexible synthetic hair and it does its job really well. Because it's very thin, you can blend the tail of your brows into a very thin line if that's the look you're going for.
- The Brow Gel is clear and has a matte finish (I say no to glossy brows!). It keeps brows in place well and it doesn't feel too wet during application. I just find the brush a bit long, I wish it was as short as the spoolie brush on the pencil for better maneuverability.
- The Brow Duo Pencil is a double-ended crayon with a light yellow-toned highlighter side and a beige concealer side. Both are creamy, and while the highlighter should work for anyone with light to medium-dark complexion, the concealer is just too dark for me. This is my least favorite products in both kits, although a touch of the highlighter just under the brow arch does help "lift" the eye.

Overall
Well done Billion Dollar Brows! The quality of the products in both kits is outstanding, from the brushes to the pencil and powder. I would highly recommend the 60 Seconds kit to brow newbies like me and anyone who's pressed for time in the morning, while the Best Sellers kit has everything an experienced beautysta needs.Where to buy: Billion Dollar Brows' website, Kohl's and select salons.
