Perfection for $3.49: Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain in Terra Crave

How often does a drugstore makeup product blow your mind? Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain is one of these rare gems, and that's for less than 5 bucks. To be honest, I would never have bought one if it hadn't been for the rave reviews I read on the blogosphere. To me Jordana just looked like a cheap, old-fashioned drugstore brand - even their logo made me frown. After trying this balm stain I have completely changed my mind!

The Twist and Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain is one of these now standard jumbo lip crayon that have invaded department stores as well as drugstores in the past 2 years. The packaging is as practical as always, easy and safe to carry around in your purse or even pockets, requiring no painful sharpening.

Jordana's version has a faint candy scent and glides well on the lips, making application quick and fool-proof. The level of pigmentation is very good for this type of balm hybrid product, as it provides a semi-opaque coverage in just a couple swipes with a fair amount of shine. My lip swatch doesn't do it much justice, trust me when I say that the color looks a lot bolder in person. Terra Crave is a beautiful shade of terracotta, a medium reddish brown, a perfect fall color.

It feels very comfortable on and it does provide a bit of moisture to my dry lips, although I wouldn't use it by itself as a nourishing balm or expect it to repair chapped lips. The really impressive feature of this lippie is its excellent staying power (combined with a moisturizing formula!). Jordana doesn't lie when they call this a stain: after the balminess is gone, the stain remains visible on lips for hours, and it lasts through a meal! I only need to re-apply once during my work day to keep my look fresh.

To help you get a better idea of how it performs, here's a comparison with the most popular lip crayons out there:

Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain vs. Clinique Chubby Stick
The Chubby Stick is the mother of all jumbo lip crayons and has a special place in my heart, but I have to admit that Jordana's version is pretty much as good. The Jordana crayon's pigmentation is comparable to the Chubby Stick Intense, but it lasts longer. Clinique's crayon might be a little more cushiony and glossy.

Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain vs. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain
Jordana totally kicks Revlon's butt! Jordana's lip crayon is balmier, a LOT more moisturizing, more comfortable to wear, and gives more shine to the lips. The stain left behind by Jordana's Twist and Shine is soft and pretty, while Revlon turned my lips into a parched mess with a horrid color tattooed on them.

Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain vs. CoverGirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm
Jordana's crayon is more pigmented and definitely lasts longer, since CoverGirl's version is not a "stain". CoverGirl's is a little more glossy and balmy, but the comfort level is comparable.

Overall: Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain is an excellent product, exceptionally long-wearing and fairly moisturizing. It is, in my humble opinion, the best drugstore jumbo lip crayon on the market, and although I wish they would add a few more shades, the 8 existing colors cover everything from nude to berry. For around $3, it's a beauty steal you should not miss!

  1. Looks like a great, affordable balm stain. Too bad Jordana isn't available in my country and I'm (still) too cheap to try out Revlon Just Bitten range. ;p Would love to give this product a try if I ever get the chance.

    1. Revlon Just Bitten is not worth it in my opinion! You might find this on ebay?
