I love it when summery colors come back on the drugstore shelves! When I heard of Maybelline's new ColorSensational Vivids lipstick, I thought they were a great idea, but not for me. I'm kind of neon shy... But when I saw pics of Pop of Cherry, a limited edition shade from the spring 2013 Color Goes Electric collection, I just couldn't pass. It's such a happy color!
It was really hard to capture its brightness on pictures, and the swatches don't really do it justice. It's a vivid, bold, fierce shade, yet it has enough translucency to let the natural lips peek through, which makes it more wearable than expected.
In the tube, it looks like a tomato red, but surprisingly it shows completely different on the skin: it's a vibrant, neon pink with hints of coral. The texture is thin, feels and looks almost wet, yet it yields an amazingly intense layer of glossy color in just one swipe. I don't know how Maybelline managed to create a formula that's so lightweight, and both slightly translucent and incredibly pigmented!

The scent is awful, something like a synthetic vanilla pina colada that stayed in the sun too long... thankfully, it doesn't linger after application. The lipstick does not feel dry on nor does it emphasize dryness on my lips. It's comfortable and so light that I forget I have it on.

The wear time is the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake here: Pop of Cherry wears surprisingly long for such a lightweight and glossy lipstick, and it leaves an ever-lasting, beautiful stain behind when the texture is gone. The shade is still very visible on my lips after 4 hours and a meal!
Overall: I think it's fair to say that this lipstick is awesome. The formula is fantastic, the vivid color brightens the whole face and lasts forever. For $7.99, it's really worth giving it a try! I will definitely get a couple shades from the permanent ColorSensational Vivids line before the summer! The Beau Miroir approves!
