Victoria's Secret the Nakeds Eye Kit - review

A while ago, as I got into a Victoria's Secret store for the first time (they don't have stores in France!), I discovered that the brand has a full range of makeup, and I was fairly impressed by the overall look of their products : almost everything was pretty, and from swatching, the quality seemed really good. One of the things I decided to buy after swatching was The Nakeds Eye Kit, a palette containing 10 eyeshadows and a black eyeliner pencil

I love the packaging, a metallic taupe faux leather compact with an engraved copper sheet on the lid. Really cool!

If the name (and maybe the font used on the lid) is reminiscent of Urban Decay's Naked palette, they're very different. I love UD's sultry, pigmented and soft shadows. Victoria's Secret version, however, allows you to create really naked looks, as in "my eyes but better", rather than bold looks with neutral shades. 6 of the 10 shadows are light, so you can combine them for a barely there, work-friendly look, using a darker shade in the crease or outer corner of your lid to add a little depth. The shimmer in these shades is flattering, not overwhelming, it helps brighten your eye and make you look more awake.

So this palette is great for soft, subtle looks, but the darker browns and blacks on the right side also work very well for more dramatic, smoky eye looks. You can choose between a matte black (Charcoal Black) or sparkling gunmetal (Sparkling Black) for your party, not-so-naked makeup. Charcoal Black being matte (no sparkles/shimmer), it's also a perfect shadow for tight-lining (lining your upper lash line on the inside, the waterline).

A naked look using VS the Nakeds palette

A smoky look using the same palette

The quality of these shadows is good, nice pigmentation, easy application and blending, minimal fall out, great wear time over a primer. I only have problems with Warm Vanilla, the glittery ivory : this one is very sheer, and the glitter falls out both during application and after, while you're wearing it. I wish they added a matte or satin shade instead!

The liner is pretty good, nicely pigmented (although not the blackest black in this world), and it stays put longer than most pencils on my waterline. The brush that comes with the kit, however, was a joke... so terrible that I threw it away the first day!

Overall, I love this little palette, it's very versatile, great for both work-friendly, nude day looks and sexy, smoky evening looks! The perfect kit to bring on a week-end getaway or short vacation. It's a good quality product for a mid-range price ($28).

    1. To be honest, I'm not really interested in their undies: not my style. But their makeup is pretty cool. I also got a great highlighter, and I want to try their glosses, lipstick, and correcting primers!

  3. Wow, at first glance at the packaging I actually thought it WAS the Naked 2 palette - they really did use the same font/color. I know exactly what you mean about actual "no makeup" type looks versus "bold neutral"... That's one of the reasons I don't find myself reaching for the Naked palette as much as I expected, despite thinking it's a great product.

    1. I have exactly the same feeling about UD Naked! Great, but sometimes I want more subdued makeup. That's when I reach for less pigmented, sheerer shadows.
